Fish Hoek is a seaside town on the False Bay side of the peninsula, with its sheltered beach, a busy village centre and homes stretching up the slopes on either side of the valley towards Clovelly and Sun Valley. It has a large retired community, many family homes and a good number of complexes and retirement villages.
Steep slopes and valley floor
Fish Hoek’s homes fall into two broad groups:
- On the slopes, driveways are often steep, with tight bends and limited access. Good drainage, grip and well-shaped transitions to the street and garage are essential.
- On the valley floor, ground is flatter and sandier, with a higher water table near the vlei and the beach. Compaction, edges and getting enough fall are the priorities.
Fish Hoek also gets strong winds, and sand blowing off the beach and the valley ends up on driveways and in drains.
