Welgemoed is a quiet, leafy suburb on the eastern slopes of the Tygerberg Hills, just above Bellville and close to Tygervalley. Most of it is residential, with spacious family homes on generous erven, many with established gardens, mature trees and the Welgemoed golf course nearby.
What makes Welgemoed driveways different
Three things come up again and again on Welgemoed jobs:
- Slope. Many homes are on sloping ground, with driveways that drop from the street or climb up to a garage. Getting water off the driveway and away from the house is the priority.
- Clay soils. The Tygerberg slopes have clay-rich soils that swell in winter and shrink in summer. Building on a deep, well-compacted base and sealing cracks early stops this movement from breaking up the surface.
- Mature trees. Large trees are part of Welgemoed’s character, and their roots are a common cause of lifted and cracked driveways. We plan around them rather than simply cutting through roots.
Typical jobs in Welgemoed
- Replacing original driveways. Many homes date from the 1970s and 1980s and still have their first driveway. We assess whether resurfacing will do or whether a new tar driveway is needed.
- Widening driveways to fit extra cars, a caravan or a boat, and blending the new area neatly with the old.
- Tar and paving combinations, with a brick paving border, garage apron or turning area.
- Channel drains and regrading where water has been running into garages.
- Crack sealing and pothole repairs on sound but ageing surfaces.
Working in a residential neighbourhood
We know Welgemoed residents value peace and tidy streets. We keep the street and sidewalk clean, avoid blocking neighbours’ driveways, and let you know in advance when the asphalt truck will arrive and roughly how long the noisy rolling will take. Waste material is removed from site.
Complexes and retirement villages
Welgemoed and nearby Tygervalley also have retirement villages and sectional title complexes with internal roads and parking. For these, we work with the managing agent to phase repairs, keep access open for residents and emergency vehicles, and add speed humps or line marking where needed.
Water from above
Because many Welgemoed homes sit below neighbouring properties, water often reaches driveways from higher ground. A cut-off drain at the top of the driveway can solve this.
Golf course homes
Homes near the Welgemoed golf course often have long, gently curving driveways and landscaped verges. We finish edges neatly against lawns and garden beds and protect the surrounding landscaping during the work.
