Quotes and pricing
Is the site survey free?
Yes, within 35 km of our base in Blue Downs. We visit, measure and assess the ground, levels and drainage with no obligation. Further away, a R350 site visit fee applies. You receive a written quote within 24 hours of the visit.
How much does a tar driveway cost?
It depends on the ground, the size of the area, access, drainage and finishes. Our pricing guide explains typical ranges per square metre and what affects them.
Do you charge for travel?
Site visits are free within 35 km of Blue Downs, which covers most of Cape Town, the Northern and Southern Suburbs, Stellenbosch and the Helderberg. Further away there is a R350 site visit fee, and any travel costs for the job itself are shown separately on the quote.
The work
What is the difference between tar and asphalt?
In South Africa people usually say "tar" for any black road surface. What we lay is asphalt: stone aggregate bound with bitumen, mixed hot at a plant and compacted on site. True coal tar is no longer used for roads.
How long will my driveway be out of use?
Most residential driveways take one to three days to build. You can usually walk on new asphalt the same day and drive on it after one to three days, depending on the weather.
Can you work in the rain?
No. Asphalt and seals need dry conditions to bond and compact properly. If rain is forecast, we reschedule rather than compromise the job.
Do you remove the old driveway?
Yes. We break out and remove old concrete, paving or asphalt and dispose of it, and the cost is shown on the quote.
Will you damage my garden?
We protect lawns, beds and walls where we can and plan machine access at the site survey. Edges next to gardens are finished neatly.
Aftercare
How do I look after a new tar driveway?
Keep cars off for the first few days, avoid turning the steering wheel while stationary for a few weeks, clean up oil or fuel spills quickly and seal any cracks early.
Why does my new driveway have marks from car tyres?
New asphalt is still slightly soft for the first weeks, especially in hot weather. Light scuffing usually fades as the surface hardens.
When will my driveway need maintenance?
Check it before each winter for cracks. After several years, a slurry seal can restore the surface and protect it for years more.
Complexes, estates and businesses
Do you work for bodies corporate?
Yes. We survey the whole complex, prioritise repairs and give phased quotes that fit a maintenance budget, and we keep residents informed.
Can you repair potholes on a public road?
Public roads are the municipality’s responsibility. We work on private property: driveways, complexes, estates, parking areas and private roads.
Can you work after hours?
Yes, for parking areas and businesses that cannot close we can work weekends, evenings or in phases.
