Goodwood sits between Cape Town’s city bowl and the northern suburbs, along Voortrekker Road and the N1. It is home to the Grand West casino and entertainment complex, the Goodwood showgrounds area and a large number of businesses, alongside established residential suburbs such as Goodwood Estate, Vasco, Monte Vista and Richmond Estate.
Goodwood’s mix of property types
The residential side of Goodwood has a lot of older homes from the 1940s to 1970s, many on narrow or sloping erven with single driveways leading to a garage at the back. There are also newer complexes and townhouse developments, and plenty of businesses with yards, workshops and customer parking.
That mix means we do a wide range of work here, from narrow residential driveways where access for equipment needs careful planning to large commercial yards that carry trucks.
Ground and drainage
Goodwood is mostly gently sloping, sandy ground, with more clay as you move towards the Tygerberg side. Sandy ground drains well, but it needs proper compaction and edge restraint to stop the surface spreading under traffic. On older properties, water often runs from the street onto the property or towards the garage. We regrade where possible and install channel drains where the levels cannot be changed.
Common jobs in Goodwood
- Tar driveways replacing old concrete strips or broken asphalt.
- Driveway resurfacing where the base is still sound.
- Commercial yards and parking areas, designed for the vehicles that use them.
- Line marking for customer parking, loading bays and one-way systems.
- Pothole repairs and crack sealing on older commercial surfaces.
- Brick paving for front gardens, patios and entrance areas.
Narrow access
Many Goodwood homes have tight access, with a single gate, a narrow side driveway or a garage behind the house. We plan the job around this, using smaller equipment and hand-laying asphalt where a paver cannot fit, while still compacting properly with suitable rollers and plate compactors. We will tell you during the site survey how we intend to get in and out.
Yards that work hard
Workshop and warehouse yards in Goodwood take a beating from turning trucks and forklifts, which tear up thin surfaces quickly. We build heavy-duty sections where vehicles turn and load, and a standard section elsewhere, so you are not paying for heavy-duty construction across the whole yard.
Close to the city and the N1
Goodwood’s central location means we often combine jobs here with work in Parow, Milnerton and the city. Book a free site survey and we will send you a written quote within 24 hours.
