Table View is named for its famous view of Table Mountain across the bay, and it is one of the most popular family areas on the West Coast. Building on West Coast sand
Table View is built almost entirely on sand. Sandy ground drains quickly, which is an advantage, but it has very little strength until it is confined and compacted. Many of the failed driveways we see in Table View were built on too thin a base, or without proper edges, and have rutted and spread.

- Proper excavation of loose sand and topsoil.
- A compacted sand subgrade and an imported, compacted base layer.
- Strong edge restraints, such as kerbs, a paved border or a concrete haunch.
- Hot asphalt, rolled while it is at the right temperature.

In summer, the south-easter blows hard across Table View, carrying sand onto driveways and into drains and gate tracks. We design drainage that is easy to clear, keep edge details simple, and recommend regular sweeping to stop sand grinding down the surface.
